Scalloped Potato Casserole

A creamy and comforting scalloped potato casserole featuring thinly sliced potatoes baked in a rich cheese sauce, perfect as a hearty side dish for any meal.

  • 4 cups thinly sliced potatoes
  • 3 tablespoons butter
  • 3 tablespoons all-purpose flour
  • 2 cups milk
  • 1 cup shredded cheddar cheese
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1/4 teaspoon paprika
  • 2 tablespoons grated Parmesan cheese

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C). Grease a 9×13 inch baking dish.
  2. In a saucepan, melt butter over medium heat. Stir in flour and cook for 1-2 minutes until bubbly.
  3. Gradually whisk in milk, continuing to stir until the sauce thickens about 5-7 minutes.
  4. Remove sauce from heat and stir in cheddar cheese, salt, pepper, garlic powder, and paprika.
  5. Layer half of the sliced potatoes in the baking dish. Pour half of the cheese sauce over the potatoes.
  6. Repeat layers with the remaining potatoes and cheese sauce.
  7. Sprinkle Parmesan cheese evenly on top.
  8. Cover with foil and bake for 45 minutes. Remove foil and bake an additional 15 minutes until golden and bubbly.
  9. Let casserole rest 10 minutes before serving.

Notes

For a crunchy topping, sprinkle breadcrumbs mixed with melted butter over the casserole before the final bake.
